Plan your disposal

Check before relying on a date. No revision date is visible on the supplied pickup notice. This is a reference schedule, not a live holiday or service-status feed. Use current UCO notices and your association’s instructions.

Everyday household trash

Garbage belongs inside the designated dumpster.

The supplied 2024 UCO welcome packet advises residents to bag food waste and place it in the large green dumpster. Use your association’s designated collection area and follow its posted instructions.

Keep walkways and access to containers clear. Avoid leaving ordinary garbage beside a dumpster. If a container is full or a pickup appears to have been missed, tell your board or property manager instead of creating a pile outside it.

Do not use the garbage dumpster for furniture, appliances, or construction debris. These require different arrangements.

Separate it right

Blue for containers. Yellow for paper.

Blue container

Use for accepted plastic containers, metal food and beverage cans, glass bottles and jars, and milk or juice cartons. Follow the SWA poster’s preparation instructions, including removing lids from glass.

Yellow container

Use for paper and cardboard: flattened cardboard with packing material removed, newspapers, mail, magazines, paper bags, and office paper. Food boxes should be free of food stains.

Place accepted recyclables loose in the appropriate container. Plastic bags do not belong in either stream. Check the original poster for item-specific instructions.

Keep these out of recycling: plastic bags, foam products, foil or foil pans, plastic utensils and straws, paper plates, paper towels or napkins, coat hangers, and light bulbs. When an item is uncertain, check SWA’s guidance before placing it in a recycling container.

Furniture & appliances

Bulk pickup is a planned service.

The supplied collection guidelines describe bulk as furniture and appliances. Put accepted items next to the dumpster at the designated bulk location on the evening before Friday collection. Ask your association where to place them without blocking access.

Items put out after the truck has serviced your location may remain until the following week. Avoid leaving furniture out early simply because you are moving or arranging a delivery.

When purchasing an appliance, ask the delivery company about removing the old one. For reusable furniture, consider arranging an accepted donation pickup before setting it outside; confirm what the recipient will accept and when collection will occur.

Renovations need their own disposal plan

Contractors must remove construction debris.

The supplied guidelines state that renovation debris—such as wood, concrete, and kitchen cabinets—must be removed by the contractor or handyman each day. The community collection arrangement does not include construction-debris removal.

Agree on debris removal before work starts and include it in the contractor’s scope. Do not let a contractor place renovation waste in a garbage dumpster or leave it for ordinary bulk pickup.

Report improper dumping promptly. If you see construction debris being placed in the dumpster, notify your board representative or property manager. Give the location and relevant details without confronting someone.

Special items need special handling

Needles and lithium batteries do not go in the bins.

The supplied recycling poster says not to place needles or lithium batteries in either trash or recycling containers. Ask the appropriate disposal program about safe collection and handling.

For batteries, chemicals, or other items that need special disposal, consult the Solid Waste Authority’s current guidance and Home Chemical & Recycling Centers. Do not assume a hazardous item is safe for ordinary garbage because it cannot be recycled.

Find the right help

Start with your association for a local problem.

The supplied guidelines say associations may request additional garbage service or a larger dumpster for an additional monthly fee. Recurring overflow is a reason for the board or manager to review capacity and current service options.

Respect the shared space. Leave it ready for the next neighbor.
